Inside The Private Lives of Orangutans / by Trevor Frost

For 2 years I had the privilege to assist photographer and explorer Tim Laman on his long term project to document wild orangutans on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. Overall we spent some 6 months together living in the rainforest to capture video and photos of these amazing creatures. Tim's goal, or our goal if you will, was to document orangutan cultures, that is to show that, like people, orangutans in different places do things differently. For example in Sumatra Orangutans eat a fruit with irritating hairs using tools but in Borneo they simply use their hands. Of course ultimately we both hope that showing people how complex and intelligent orangutans are will help save them as the forests of Indonesia disappear. With that said, please follow the link below to read the story, take in the photos, and watch the videos, which I helped put together. Thanks so very much. Trevor Frost, Richmond, VA
